I was on FCB campus early this morning and found Molla and Nagash hard at work cleaning classrooms for next week's opening. The campus looks pretty good and we are getting some last minute plumbing jobs done. We will construct 3 concrete basins on a concrete table for the students to wash their clothes in. In the past they have squatted on a concrete slab with a plastic bucket of cold water to wash up their few clothes. We bought 4 charcoal heated irons so they can look sharp. I have updated the operating systems on two of the lab computers - to sp2 for Windows XP. I was amazed to find about a 25 page newsletter that Kogalloh had put together - with pictures and articles. It looked pretty good. ...We will have to have a second printing of our FCB Bulletin as it has been proven to be very popular.

Our container will arrive at the port in September and probably take two weeks for us to get it after that. We have a place that is being prepared for it just off FCB parking lot. A big fork lift will lift it off the truck and place it gently down. Then we will have a door and windows cut into it and a roof put over it. Then electricity.     Howard

Another dorm is being built to house 16 new students. Also a foundation has been laid for the shipping container, which will be used for a printing press room. (allow photo to load)

Upgrades to laundry is being built for the students to wash their clothing.

This will be our new "washing machine" for FCB.  The students formerly have squatted on the pavement and washed their clothes in a plastic bucket. We are building this concrete table with four concrete basins built
in and each with a faucet.  It is going to be strong. I hope it works. We will make a
picture of the first attempt at using it. Howard

Howard, Bonnie and Raymond were able to buy a cow for James.

In this picture James (FCB student), stands with a cow which Raymond helped him buy as part of the dowery for his bride-to-be. This is standard practice in most areas. GO! supporters helped three other theological students in the same way. This is an extremely important ministry as the students have no money at all, but desire a worthy life partner for their ministry.
Some day we should sit down and write out how many varied ways our donors bless their African brothers and sisters. Howard

Mid-term Evangelism, June 17 – 19  in Nairobi

Ruaraka HTCA  mission churches

Kogallah is first on right in photo above along with some of the evangelizing students carrying their bedroll.

as written by Samuel Kogallah - FCB Student - Chairman of the Team

This time around the Lord opened to us new mission fields in Ruaraka area; the immoral slums of Nairobi instead of going to a far place.

We found a big difference in the people and work.

After exhortation and prayers from our Principal Dr. Carlson, we set off with him leading to the place of ministry. We arrived at noon and the Principal soon departed to conduct some business for the College.

We had lunch at the church, after which we went out for door-to-door evangelism. At 4 pm we made our way to Goruongo grounds (market square) for open air preaching.

Student Sammy Bii preached and many were curious to hear what messages we had. We ended the open air preaching at 8 pm to go to our host for supper. We had devotions after and then had a good sleep.

Day 2 (Saturday) After breakfast and morning devotions we divided ourselves into three groups. Group 1, led by Dan Morris Owino with Michael Otieno, Jacob Tibebu, Daniel Mutunga and Daniel Yaban. Twelve made confession of their sins and prayed for salvation.
Group 2 was made up of Benjamin Lagat, Samuel Kogalloh, Joel Ngeno and Sammy Bii, all under the leadership of the Youth officers of the local church. Six confessed their sins and prayed for salvation.
Group 3 had Charles Otieno of FCB plus the church secretary and the pastor John. Many confessed their sins and prayed for salvation through his group.

At 3 pm the crusade started, being led by Pastor John. Victor Ochieng led the singing of choruses and praise Hymns. Many people were attracted by this singing, and by the time student Daniel Mutunga began to preach many hearts were already opened by the Spirit of God.

After the preaching of the Word, they came as the NT prodigal son, confessing their sins and with tears vowed to return to Christian obedience. They begged us not to end the crusade but we had to as it was already 8:45 pm and quite cold. We had our evening meal and slept joyfully.

Day 3 (Sunday) This Sunday was different from other Sundays for the pathetic looking church. It was full and lively with many new converts, who promised to follow Christ and be members of the local congregation (Ruaraka HTCA).

Daniel Yaban preached from John 15:1 – 8 “Bearing Fruit.” The people strongly begged that we plan for another outreach there.

General observation:

Many people here are hungry for the Word of God for there was no resistance reported even from the drunkards who are generally considered quite rough. Everyone was receptive to hear the Word, both young and old. The young children were so happy when they saw our Principal that they in unison called out “How are you?”
Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for the new converts so that they may grow in faith and grace.
2. Pray that at least two team members may be able to continue to visit these churches every Sunday so that we might strengthen the new believers and encourage the churches.
3. Pray for the spiritual growth and strength of these slum mission stations.

Praises
1. We praise God for GO! International Mission for its financial and prayer support of evangelism.
2. We praise God for giving our Principal strength, despite his ill health, to go with us to the field. May God continue strengthening him.
3. We praise God for opening the hearts of so many in these slums of Nairobi.
Sincerely,
Samuel Kogalloh, Chairman of FCB evangelism team
