Lessos

"GO! Outreach has helped Lessos with their Bible school and church construction almost on a par with Bomet. They are good people and hard workers. The school now has five new students and seven graduated this year." Howard

Raymond Reports:   Lessos is more about people than an area.   In the 1970’s, pastors from this area came very regularly to the BCEA for the yearly pastor’s conference, and these pastors always made a point of greeting me, as a young teacher – principal at the college.

In the 1990’s, as the older pastors retired or were taken to be with the Lord, the younger pastors were given more leadership responsibility, and started to invite Ruth and me to speak at their yearly youth camp.   Upon seeing all the youth in their church, I encouraged the leaders to please start a Bible school so as to train those youth called by God to be pastors.  There was no response for a long time, then one day I was asked to come and teach a class at their new Bible school.

They didn’t have much of a school campus, so I said that I would do what I could to help them to put up some class rooms, dorms and a library and office.

Before I knew it they asked if I could come for some evangelistic meetings, and upon arriving was shown what they had done in building their Bible Institute.

Making Bricks

They had all the plans drawn up, and the roof on part of their building, but needed some help in finishing everything.   After talking and praying about the project, I went to the hardware store and bought the iron sheets needed for the roof, then went to the mill and ordered the siding for the rooms.   It was a great time to go there with the van full to overloading with supplies and the evangelistic equipment, helping to build the physical as well as the spiritual building of the Lord.

Our summer youth team came out and evangelized and painted the completed building; I brought all the books that their library could hold.   Then we built a water tank and latrine, and we were in business.

The first 7 students at the school were very fine, most primary school teachers, so were able to pick up the lessons very quickly.

They just graduated, and the next group, this time 5 have come to spend three years in order to prepare for the pastorate.   One of the graduates will attend FCB this coming year.         The area is between 7 to 8,000 ft., so is enjoyable to live, and is very good for growing corn and beans and raising dairy cattle.   This enables the school to be self supporting.

Our latest project has been to help build a large conference hall.   The walls and roof are done now, but help is needed to buy cement and sand for plastering the walls and floor, and getting the windows and doors installed and painted.

Lessos Graduation - December 2003

This December (2004) I will go and teach a few classes and afterwards give lessons at their yearly youth camp. The graduates have gone out and started new churches in the area, and have also taken leadership roles in their large denomination of over 300 congregations.

Stan and Lessos Pastors - December 2003

We thank the Lord for the privilege of working with these fine Bible believing Christians.

This is the tribe that produces most of the world class long distance runners, and they do know how to run with the Gospel of Christ to the uttermost ends of their area.  Raymond

Lessos Pastor Joseph in the Lessos Bible School Library

"Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly; So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure;"
