FCB STUDENT EVANGELISM TEAM READY TO GO!

Photo: It was a cold morning, July 30, 2005, but the team's hearts were warm and ready to go into the fields of harvest. They had spent time in prayer and read:

2Corinthians10:4-6

"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled."

Faith Evangelistic Team July Report
By Samuel Kogalloh

The team left the college on 30th July 2005 at 8 am after a time of prayer with the principal, and the reading of II Corinthians 10:4-6. We traveled safely to our destination Burgei AGUC and found Rev. John Bett, who is the area leader, waiting for us at the church. Immediately church elders and ladies flocked in to welcome us. We had prayers for the work that was ahead of us for the whole week. In the evening a good gathering came to hear from the word of the Lord. Pst. Silas Wanyonyi preached from 2 Chronicles 20:1-2.

"It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi."     2Chronicles20:1,2

31st July, Lord’s Day worship service: We woke up early and conducted the morning devotion and we started preparing for the service. John Mwendwa and Stephen Okidoko taught the Sunday School; Samuel Kogalloh preached during the service.

In the evening Paul Cheruiyot preached at open air at Kesusuot buying centre. At night many people turned out for church; though it was raining heavily, still people persevered so that they may listen to the word. God touched the heart of a few people and they gave their lives to Him in faith and repentance.

On Monday the team divided itself into five groups which were led by 5 elders of the church and went to the village of Ng’esumin, a big village where people drink a lot. When the team arrived there, they evangelized house to house, and many people gave themselves to the Lord. That day those who gave their lives to the Lord were twelve. In the evening we did not have open air preaching at the centre. During the night worship service many people came to listen to the word of God.

"Paul and Benson borrow bicycles to visit a far away village for evangelism."  Howard

On Tuesday the team divided itself into five groups and we went back to the same village because we had not completed evangelizing it on Monday.

This was a very different day because, as the team was going around preaching the word in the way and from house to house,

...God spoke to some of those who were met and they gave themselves to the Lord with tears.

Some of those who were saved are: Samuel, Kimeli, Bernard, Samson, Richard, and the whole household of Kipchoge (six members of the family). In the evening James Musyoki preached at the open air. At night Joel Ng’eno preached to a large crowd that came to the church.

On Wednesday we divided ourselves again into five groups. This time we went to Lengenet village, but one group went back to Ng’esumin to meet some families which had requested prayers.

In the evening when we all met and turned in our reports, we found that 16 people were led to the Lord. We thanked the Lord so much for that day’s work. In the evening at the open air, Pst Silas preached. At night Joshua Simba preached with various choirs singing to praise the Lord.

Photos Above: "This old Christian warrior is helped out into the yard to greet the evangelist team. After a preaching session, the team gave him a gift from the relief fund.   The picture on the right and above is of a very old woman visited who rejected the Gospel.  It is a picture like this that brings sorrow to the heart. This woman has suffered untold miseries in this life." Howard

On Thursday after the breakfast we again divided ourselves into three groups because two elders did not turn up. We went to the east of Burgei village. There the team worked hard going from house to house, because there are many people.

In the morning we first went to Burgei Primary School where the head teacher had invited us to speak to the teachers and the children. At school, John, Stephen and Joshua taught class 1-3; James, Joel, and Molla Dessie taught Class 4 and 5; while Samuel, Silas and Rev. Daniel Yaban taught class 6-8.

"The public school let the evangelists speak to the students. Great effect was achieved through faithful preaching." Howard

The children were encouraged to hold upon the word of God, which not only will give them wisdom but also a bright future in Christ Jesus. Afterwards we had a general assembly with both the pupils and teachers, with brother Silas preaching.

This day ten people gave their lives to the Lord.

On Friday we divided into five groups and visited several families, then went to Theophilus Mibei, one of the church elders who had invited us to pray with his family. The whole team met together at Mibei’s place at around 3 p.m. The report showed that those who had been evangelized and received Christ as their personal Savior were 11. We conducted a good prayer meeting which was led by Pst. David Rono.

After the prayer, as we were about to leave for the church, it rained heavily almost for two hours continuously. Some of us were rained upon until our clothes became very wet.

Walking to the church became a problem because much water had flooded the road. But we thanked God for the work He had given us to accomplish. At night there was only a small number which had turned up to listen for God’s word. Despite the long travel, God sustained us and we managed to evangelize different people. Some of those who were saved are: Monica, Joyce, Bernard, Margret, Lillia, Ivey, Joseph, Winny, Wesley, Robert, Stephen and Fancy.

Some of those we met could not accept that there is salvation outside the Roman Catholic church, so we had to spend much time trying to explain to them. The problem we found there is that the Roman Catholic, which is the biggest denomination in that area, had strongly taught its members to refuse any other doctrine. But all in all, we thanked God for the souls which He touched, who were brought to the knowledge of Christ.

On Saturday we did not go out to evangelize, but we had a wonderful seminar with the church elders. We had three lessons: Negash Degafa taught a lesson on prayer; Benson Mwengi taught a lesson on giving and offerings in the church; and Rev. Yaban taught a lesson on church leadership.

In the evening, though there was a heavy downpour, people came in greater numbers than all the other days to listen to the word of God.

James preached from Matthew 22:1-14: “Go compel them to come in.”

"Here are two widows of the church are presented with gifts of food and money. It couldn't be much but was received with great gratitude. This is how relief was meant to be." Howard

On Sunday we had a blessed worship with Rev.Yaban preaching. After the service, some of the team traveled to their homes.

We thank God who has called us into His ministry at this time to preach of His Kingdom which He has assured us from the very beginning, and for the hope of eternal live in His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

We thank God for providing for us in all things. Again, we thank the entire faculty of our college who tirelessly had bee cooperating with us both in prayers and support, not forgetting our principal who always has been in the frontline to support the Faith Evangelistic Team both prayerfully and financially. May the rich God continue to bless all our supporters more abundantly.

"On the left is a picture of one of the recipients of the team's aid gift. She is a well-known Christian widow who has suffered a great deal." Howard

This elderly, blind widow was given the gifts of both spiritual and physical food by the willingness of the FCB Evangelism Team to GO!

APPRECIATION

We strongly feel that the hospitality of Burgei AGUC church cannot go unnoticed. They took the burden of feeding us and caring for us in almost everything. We only had to chip in a little, and this saved us a substantial amount of money in our budget. May the almighty God bless them and increase their faith in giving. Pray for them.

Footnote:

Our team carried a small amount of money for food relief, and distributed it to 17 needy households. The list of recipients includes 8 very poor widows, 2 orphans, 2 single mothers with many children, an amputee, a blind widow, 5 aged, and several sick.

All requested prayer for God’s mercy and grace. These people received the money  warmly and were very thankful.

Below is a very stirring account of the July 30th Team by those who went to other villages.

Written by Rev. Sam Bii and Jacob Tibebu from Ethiopia - both students of FCB

July 31, 2005:

This was our Arriving Day, and we walked five kilometers from the bus stop with our luggage through showers of rain. But we managed to reach Kecheryat Christian School safely, where we were welcomed by 50 parents who were being addressed by the area counselor. We introduced ourselves, and rejoiced to see the commitment of these people to building a Christian school, though they are very poor.

Sunday, August 1:  Jacob preached in Kecheryat Church, Samwel preached in Kiplokyi Church.  After service we attended a youth rally at Kiplokyi Church, where we both taught.

Monday: We preached at the open air meeting at Kiplokyi where the area chief and area counselor attended.

Tuesday (closing day of school):  We addressed both parents and pupils at Kecheryat  School.

Wednesday: At Kecheryat School Board Seminar, Rev. Bii presented two lessons and Jacob presented one lesson.  Afterwards Jacob preached at the midweek fellowship at Kapsimotwo,

Thursday: At Kecheryat School Staff Seminar, Rev. Bii gave two lessons and Jacob gave one lesson.  Then they walked two kilometers on a swampy road to the midweek fellowship at Kiplokyi, where Rev. Bii interpreted as Jacob preached, and the people were really blessed by the word of God as it touched their hearts.

Friday:  On our last day in that area, we did house to house evangelism at Kapsimotwo, and Jacob prayed for the sick in each house.

One man (Francis) had heard the preaching Monday, and requested a visit to his home; he listened to the word of God and believed in the Lord.

A 75 year old man (Elijah) asked many questions about salvation.

A woman known for her alcohol making sent someone to bring the preachers to her home and 12 of her neighbors joined her to hear about Zaccheus.  She too believed in the Lord.

After another 2 kilometer walk through the mud, the wet and weary preachers returned to Rev. Bii’s home where his wife Jane provided a charcoal fire and good supper, and encouraged them not to give up but to press on.

Saturday: Although we got a matatu, the road was very tough (slippery and swampy) and we had to pull the vehicle and walk, then pull again.  By noon we reached Kaptich, where we visited the branch chairman of AGUC; while Jacob rested there, Rev. Bii and the chairman walked another 8 kilometers to a midweek fellowship.

Rev. Bii spoke on comfort, as the wife of that house had just lost a newborn child.  A small offering was taken to help this very poor woman. Then the 8 kilometer walk back in the dark, to rejoin Jacob for evening prayers.

Sunday:  We walked to a joyful church service at Londiani junction, then visited in one of the members’ homes where they were sick from malaria.

Monday:  Jacob departed to Nairobi after successful evangelism where people responded to the word and at least five souls were born again.  The people blessed and glorified God.

Further Note:  The seminars taught at the Kecheryat Christian School were both practical and edifying for the Board members and school staff.  The chairman said that he learned a lot from the lessons and that these new ideas on organizational methods and problem solving would be used to run the school in an articulate manner.

The Board requested further seminars like these, for as long as one week.
