Subject: [Pastors] Student evangelism in Kenya
Brethren, we ask your prayers for the 17 students we sent out this
weekend
for evangelism. Eleven went high into the mountains (9,000 feet) to
evangelize in the area of a local East Africa Christian Alliance church.
We
are now in the coldest season and the fellows will be sleeping on the
ground
with only the blanket they carried for warmth. They need prayer for
health
as well as boldness. The second team of 6 has gone into a semi-desert
area
to hold a week-end rally with public school students. This rally is a
breakthrough into the public school system.
Raymond reported in the April evangelism teams that he had never seen
God
work so mightily in his 35+ years in Africa. Pray for these future
preachers, that God will give them holy boldness. Pray that they might
be
totally reliant upon the Holy Spirit to work through the Preaching of
the
Word. And pray that this might be another mighty reaping of repentant
souls
for Christ. Howard Carlson

No one became sick, they tell me. That must be an answer to prayer.
Paul Cheruiyot will be getting together with the team to the secondary school, and then he will prepare the financial report. (Negash became ill after the return to school)
Joshua told me some about the high school rally. The headmistress had invited our team to hold a weekend rally for the Christian Union of her school. There were also a number of students from other high schools who came.
And some students who had not attended Christian Union became interested and attended sessions.

Above - These young people are former street children, whose parents have died of AIDS. Our students for years have ministered to the orphanage where they live. They have been delivered from drugs, prostitution and crime. We trust many have truly accepted Christ. HC
They were able to show Pilgrim's Progress before a fuse went out. That was well received. Joshua taught a session on Salvation and Sanctification;
Kogalloh taught on the Bible and Prayer; Titus taught on resisting temptation; and Sammy taught on Call to the Ministry. They also had a session with the boys, while Naomi Geoffrey (FCB's music teacher) met with the girls.
They were given many questions to answer, and regretted they had not brought Stan's chart on Why Wait. The team is invited to come again.
The headmistress offered them 600 shillings, (about $5) but Joshua told her to use it for some other good thing. The music our team presented was not the sort ...the kids were used to, but by Saturday afternoon they were accepting it well.
We are thinking this high school rally can be a
kind of pilot program, and we can try to get the EACA churches involved in
doing the same in their areas, as God opens doors.

Bringing children unto Christ is the first step in changing Kenyan society. God’s Word will change lives and a country. HC

Report for Londiani Evangelism
We left the school compound on Friday, 10th June, 2004 at around 9:00 a.m. and we boarded a bus from town to Londiani Junction. Those who were in the team were: James Musyoki, Richard Kirui, Joshua Simba, John Mwendwa, Samson Weldesemayat, Paul Cheruiyot, Daniel Yaban, Joel Ngno, and Lamu Imaidoi (9).
The journey took us 8 hours on the way and we arrived there at around 6:30 p.m. We found our hosts waiting for us eagerly at the church. After resting for 30 minutes we were divided amongst the churches around and the places we were to spend the night.
The next morning, Saturday, each group started evangelizing house to house. This is how we divided ourselves. Some went to Kapsimotwa village who were: Paul Cheruiyot, Lamu Imaidoi Ebere, John Mwendwa, and Daniel Too (student from Bomet Bible Institute). In the evening on our day of arrival Paul and Lamu were received at the home of Samuel Langat and that evening Lamu preached from Acts 2:36-39 while Paul took the programme. Those who attended were about 40. John and Daniel were received at the next homestead of church member as well.
On the following day, 12th June 2004, they were able to visit Kapsimatwa village, Lelaitich, Kivito where many turned unto Christ in repentance of their sins and confessed Him as Saviour for their souls. We give all the glory to Him.

In the evening we had a blessed
fellowship where we had a large number of people.
Pastor Lamu Imaidoi preached from Acts 26:4-11. On Sunday Lamu went to preach at Kaptich AGUC where he preached from Mark 8:34-38 with the theme: "The Gain of the world and the Loss of the Soul." Paul preached at Kapsimotwa AGUC from Numbers 21:1-9 with the title “Looking upon the Cross.” |
The next group went to Kiplokyi village and they were: Joel Ngeno, James Musyoki and two students from Bomet Bible Institute—James Kitulika and Peter Cheruiyot.
In the morning of 12th June 2004 we divided ourselves and we witnessed from house to house around Kiplokyi village where many turned to Christ. James Kitulika and Joel Ngeno went to Benditai Secondary School where they witnessed to students and teachers. They also witnessed in the villages around and numerous people also received Christ as their personal Saviour.
On Sunday Pastor Kitulika preached from Mark 10:46-52 with his theme being “Jesus our Merciful Lord.” He urged the congregation to commit their needs unto the Lord and He will surely be merciful unto them.
Thereafter James Musyoki taught a lesson on Regeneration from John 3:3,5,8. Pastor Ngeno and Peter Cheruiyot were invited to talk to the youths after the worship service.
We saw many turning unto the Lord in repentance and confessing Him as their personal Saviour. (Many requested we pray for them)

After the service at the various churches we had an open air preaching at Sach-Angwany Center where many people turned unto the Lord.
Lamu preached to a very large crowd, his text being from Luke 19:1-10 about the Conversion of Zaccheus. Many people were convicted of their sins and open-heartedly gave their lives to Christ.
We thank the Lord so much for this great door that He opened unto us that we may witness His word at Londiani Area. Also our sincere gratitudes go to our sponsors who contributed towards this ministry. May our Almighty bless them more abundantly. To God be the glory.
On the other side, Brother Samson preached at Benditai AGUC where they had attended Sunday service with Richard Kirui. The locals from this place of Londiani wanted us to go back for a long time since the time we witnessed there was too short.
One old man, Elijah requested the team to prayerfully give their efforts in serving the Lord wholeheartedly. They also requested for prayers for Kedreiyat Christian School and for the church growth in their area.
We thank the Lord for the great door He has opened to us to witness His word in Londiani Area. Truly, lift up your eyes and look at the fields for they are already white for harvest. “Lord, send reapers for thy harvest.” Amen

Report for Evangelism to Mwingi-Enziu Secondary School, 18th-20th June, 2004
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creatures” (Mark 16:15). When we took up this command and left for Enziu mixed secondary school in Mwingi District, little did we know “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things.” (Romans 10:15).
The team which consisted of Mwalimu (Teacher) Joshua Musyoka, Sammy Musili, Titus Kimwele, Samson Mutai, Naomi Geofrey and Samuel Kogalloh, arrived in this school at six, tired and weary after a long and rough journey. We found Christian Union students and the neighbouring youths waiting. This made us go into business without wasting time.
After giving God glory for His journey mercy, Sammy Musili taught them about “Peer Pressure,” which actually challenged them, after which we watched Pilgrim’s Progress, which was a touch.
Saturday, Mwalimu Joshua taught on “Salvation and Sanctification.” Many attended including AIC Mtwangombe choir, AIC Enziu and the neighbouring community. Afternoon session was handled by Samuel Kogalloh, declaring “The Means of Sanctification,” majoring particularly on the Word and Prayer, while Pastor Titus Kimwele taught about “Temptations” in the cool of the evening.

This group was interested in salvation, music, abortion and sexual relationships between students. Bible teaching was given. |
Sunday, as it appeared that many of the students were brought up in a charismatic atmosphere, they raised many questions about tongue speaking, doctrines, ethics and personal holiness. We therefore divided them into two classes, one for girls and one for boys, after answering general questions. The girls remained with Mrs. Naomi Geofrey while we took the boys. These classes started at 8:00 a.m. and went up to 10:30 a.m. We tried to give them the biblical stand on their questions.
Sunday worship started at 11:00 a.m. with Nguni Secondary School, Mwingi Secondary School AIC youths and the neighbouring community joining us. It was Sammy Musili’s turn to teach “Call to the Ministry,” while Mwalimu Joshua taught about “Decision Making.”
All these teachings were interspersed with hymns, choirs, dramas and solo verses which gave this weekend challenge an aura of spiritual filling. Glory be to God on high for “showing us great and mighty things” upon calling His name! Many turned away from charisma stand.
Observation:
They are friendly, hospitable, eager to listen to the word and anxious for future continuing fellowship with F.C.B. Evangelism team.
