Go! International Outreach - How it All Began
|
Many years ago, in 1968, Raymond and Ruth heeded the Lord's call to Go! into Kenya. They were teachers at the Bible College of East Africa. On the weekends, Raymond went on evangelistic bush safari's and began developing what he called 'preaching points.' |

The people gathered - Under trees, in the tea fields, coffee plantations; and roadside. Raymond also journeyed with students to their villages to preach and help establish churches. Small villages requested him to come to preach and show the Jesus film. Often one of the men would come to the college, so they could have a trained pastor. This is how it all began. |

In the late 1980's the Carlson family became an Outreach Ministry, in Nakuru, to them all. Much of the work during draught and famine years, was spent buying food from poor farmers in one area, and driving the provision to the churches and schools who were in the stricken areas, teaching schools, and building more churches. Over the years, they have helped establish five schools where men and women could learn to be pastors, Sunday school teachers, carpenters, and tailors. The schools are in Osajai, Lessos, Kisumu, Bomet, and Rongai. They have helped the nationals plant dozens of indigenous churches and continue to support them. |

Presently, Raymond journeys to them all; teaching, evangelizing, and helping them grow in spiritual grace and strength. It is not a simple task. They are poor. Often there is famine, disease, and an extreme lack of material resources. It takes years to build and establish a school, requiring training, hard labour, and faith. The walls can only rise up higher when money comes in for bricks. In August of 2003, Stanley visited Bomet with the Go! Outreach Team. He asked the principal of the Bomet Bible Institute what they needed most - and would make an effort to bring this back with him in November.
Most of the churches share two or three ragged hymn books. In October Stan shared a power-point presentation to the Calvary School. The children put together a Christmas gift to send to the Outreach churches, students, and schools. Howard and Bonnie were able to give two hundred hymnals to pastors, and hundreds of Bibles to many in Kenya and Uganda as gifts from the Calvary Kids. From these many churches and schools, the very best are often selected for an opportunity to attend Faith College of the Bible in Nairobi, granted there is financial backing. (See More on FCB ) In December 2003 Raymond and Stan went on the most rigorous Outreach safari ever. They taught and fellowshipped for the Youth Conferences and assisted at several of the graduations. |
